    A New Birth of Freedom

Conducted by Music Director Troy Peters, YOSA presents one of the most powerful orchestral works of the 20th century, Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony. This heroic and lyrical masterpiece takes listeners on an epic musical journey through a great composer’s response to scrutiny and condemnation at the hands of Stalin in Soviet Russia. Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, written just five years after the Shostakovich, offers another perspective on freedom, with a stirring narration built from Lincoln’s speeches and letters. The concert will open with Mexican composer Arturo Márquez’s infectiously rhythmic Tango del Fuego Nuevo. Don’t miss this evening of exciting music with the YOSA Philharmonic, San Antonio’s very best young musicians.
