A great scene propels a narrative forward. Create vivid scenes that weave archival information with dramatic tension. Use the sense of immediacy to grab a reader’s interest, to capture a moment in time, and to render it for the modern reader.
John Pipkin earned a PhD in British Literature from Rice University, Houston, in 1997. His first novel, Woodsburner, won the 2009 First Novel Award from the Center for Fiction. Pipkin was a 2011 Dobie Paisano Fellow and is the former Executive Director of the Writers’ League of Texas.
