Texas Artist Connection: To and Fro opening reception

Opening Reception: Thursday, August 6, 6-8pm

Jose Cardenas Adrienne Cullins, Sarah Fox, Michael Anthony Garcia, Matt Manalo, Eduardo Portillo were selected a year ago to be part of a group exhibition.

Artists were asked to show their own work as well any collaborative projects that they were able to create and develop over that span of time.

To and Fro captures playful line and color combinations that occur alongside created and abstracted story lines.

The show, which consists mostly of drawings, paintings, sculpture and collage, captures the spirit of contemporary artists based in San Antonio, Houston, and Austin.

Each artist's work speaks to their own identity while simultaneously creating a dialogue that exists between the individual works of art. Several of the artists collaborated on multi-media projects that will be featured during the exhibition.

To and Fro is part of the Texas Artist Connection (T.A.C.) series, curated by Raul Gonzalez.

Located just east of downtown San Antonio, the Carver Community Cultural Center (the Carver) is an historical center of the community’s African-American culture. Named in honor of internationally esteemed agricultural chemist George Washington Carver, the Carver embodies this great man’s philosophy and spirit:

“Start where you are, with what you have.

Make something of it. Never be satisfied.”

The mission of the Carver Community Cultural Center is to celebrate the diverse cultures of our world, nation and community, with emphasis on its African and African-American heritage, by providing challenging artistic presentations, community outreach activities and educational programs.
