Novel/Memoir Boot Camp
Presented by Gemini Ink Literary Arts Center
November 7 - November 8, 2015
For those of us who do not find our novels or memoirs effortlessly pouring out with their own organic beginning, middle, and end, Ward teaches the class she always wanted to take to demystify the book-writing process. Examine the three-act structure and talk about how to lay out your novel or memoir. What plot points are important to understand before beginning the book? When should you abandon your plan and let the characters lead you? What role can theme play in creating your framework? Bring a copy of your favorite novel, a pen or laptop for writing exercises, and passion for your own work-in-progress.
Amanda Eyre Ward is the author of several novels, including Close Your Eyes, a Kirkus Best Book of 2011; and The Same Sky, People Magazine’s Book of the Week and which Jodi Picoult calls “the timeliest book you will read this year. It’s going to define the brilliant Amanda Eyre Ward.” Ward and her family live in Austin, Texas, where she writes and spends time with her children.
