    SAN ANTONIO SYMPHONY: BEETHOVEN'S EMPEROR

Sibelius       The Swan of Tuonela, Op. 22, No. 2
Beethoven    Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major for Piano and Orchestra, Op. 73, “Emperor”
Sibelius        Symphony No. 1 in E minor, Op. 39

Fast-rising pianist Inon Barnatan, currently the New York Philharmonic’s Artist-in-Association, brings dazzling virtuosity and daring emotional depth to Beethoven’s majestic and much beloved “Emperor” Concerto. Finnish composer Jean Sibelius was born in the middle of the 19th century and lived until the middle of the 20th; his Symphony No. 1, premiered in 1899, offers a fascinating musical view of both a fully ripened Romanticism and the dawn of Modernism.
