    San Antonio Symphony: Carmina Burana

What do The Simpsons, Rock star Ozzie Osborne, How I Met Your Mother, The Howard Stern Show, Old Spice, Domino’s Pizza, and the San Antonio Symphony’s Opening Night Concert have in common? They all use music from Carmina Burana, of course!

The opening chorus, “O Fortuna” may be the most frequently heard classical melody after Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.” Orff’s choral masterpiece includes passionate tributes to the fickleness of fortune and wealth, the ephemeral nature of life, and the pleasures and perils of drinking, gluttony, gambling and lust. And it starts and ends with perhaps the most powerful and memorable three minutes of music for huge forces of orchestra and chorus. You haven’t experienced the power of the Symphony until you encounter Carmina Burana in person!
