Fiestas Patrias de Mujer Artes Exhibit Viewing
September 19 - October 14, 2016
Come celebrate Diez y Seis with the women of MujerArtes! Come to a viewing of Fiestas Patrias de Mujer Artes exhibit and art sale from Sept. 19 through Oct 14 at the Casa de MujerArtes (1412 El Paso).
The women draw on Mexican and Mexican-American culture and depict familiar themes and scenes in various clay artworks.
The women have also been creating tiles that will go into their new adobe studio that we are building at the Rinconcito de Esperanza (816 S. Colorado).
The Cooperativa MujerArtes, located on the Westside, is a 21 year-old project sponsored by the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center. It has been teaching low income Latinas the art of working and creating with clay. A “lost” art in the United States of America, clay work is very much tied to everyday life as well as the universal circle of life. MujerArtes incorporates the cultura of the women in art in order to preserve and tell their stories and historia.
For more information on the exhibit and sale, contact Cooperativa MujerArtes at 210-223-2585 or at the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center at 210-228-0201.
