Mil Guitarras para Víctor Jara
September 17, 2016
Chilean folk singer/songwriter Víctor Jara was assassinated Sept. 16 during the 1973 coup that overthrew the democratically-elected government of Dr. Salvador Allende. Mil Guitarras para Víctor Jara is a musical homage to Victor Jara that is held annually in Santiago, Chile. This year, San Antonio will be joining Chile in solidarity to honor Víctor's memory and to encourage the U.S. government to extradite his assassin-who lives openly in south Florida-to face justice in Chile.
Join renowned San Antonio singer-songwriter Tish Hinojosa and Puerto Rico’s Lourdes Pérez and others to sing the songs of the great Chilean songwriter Víctor Jara. This is a free, family-friendly event.
This is a participatory activity so if you'd like to sing along in the official "choir" with Tish and Lourdes, you may come to a couple of rehearsals before the event to practice the songs. This year, we'll be singing songs from his album Pongo en tus manos abiertas.
