Calmus Ensemble Concert
Presented by San Antonio Chamber Music Society at Temple Beth-El
April 23, 2017
Five acappella vocal artists from Leipzig, the heart of classical music, present a tribute to Shakespeare, enclosing excerpts from his sonnets in music from period composers as well as modern and contemporary composers whose musical language mirrors Shakespeare's written work. These five vocalists, four male voices ranging from bass to countertenor and one female soprano, came together at Bach's alma mater, the St. Thomas Church Choir School. They are worldwide celebrities who in their 16 years have recorded 15 albums. They recently made their New York debut at Carnegie Hall and will be in San Antonio for what promises to be one memorable concert.
