    A Woman’s Place Is… Exhibit

Women artists – where they have been, the places they occupy now, and the roles they will fill in the future – are the basis for “A Woman’s Place Is…,” an exhibit celebrating 15 San Antonio- based Latina artists. This intentionally cross-generational exhibit, with participating artists ranging in age from 20 to 80 years, includes women who were active participants in the first wave of feminist art almost 60 years ago, to younger artists now discovering the history of that rich legacy.

“A Woman’s Place Is…,” presented by the City of San Antonio Department of Arts & Culture, is currently on display at Centro de Artes Gallery, 101 S. Santa Rosa, and runs through Sunday, August 20, 2017. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

“A Woman’s Place Is…” features 48 works by 15 artists including: Sarah Castillo, Lisette Chavez, Cat Cisneros, Ana Laura De La Garza, Jenelle Esparza, Audrya Flores, Diana Rodriguez Gil, Mari Hernandez, Chloe Rivas, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Elva Salinas, Victoria Suescum, April Flores Taylor, Anita Valencia, Carla Veliz. Artworks include two-dimensional pieces and three-dimensional installations that address themes of power, spirituality, politics, history, family, community, and the examination of women’s roles in each.

The exhibit is guest curated by San Antonio-born artist, Kathy Vargas. Vargas currently teaches art at the University of the Incarnate Word and has lectured throughout the U.S. and Mexico.
