    High Noon

John Chatmas’ exhibition, "High Noon," is full of ambiguities that could be viewed as one step up from an inkblot. Fascinated by the relationship between the “how” and the “what” in the aesthetic experience, Chatmas’ painted reliefs and works on paper attempt to answer the questions of how can one’s sense of wonder, meaning, and value become more engaged, and what reaction do we have even when what we experience is something neither clearly real nor clearly an illusion.

"High Noon" may say something about what we like or dislike about our culture, or may only evoke the uncertainty inherent in ambiguous situations. In either case, it speaks about the forces and conditions that affect our lives and raise questions about a better or worse future.
