    Urban Nature, Hidden Culture

Over the summer, the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures teamed with the Headwaters at Incarnate Word to put on a three-part photography and nature workshop for students entering grades 5 through 8. The students’ exploration the nature around them and photography is the basis for a new student exhibit at the institute.

The Headwaters at Incarnate Word, on the grounds of The University of the Incarnate Word, is the location of the Blue Hole, deemed the headwaters of the San Antonio River.

Through a course of three meetings at the Headwaters Sanctuary, students will learn photography tips from professionals, explore the trails around the Blue Hole, explore the significance of the San Antonio River in shaping a culture, and prepare their stories and artist statements for exhibition at the institute.
