Luminaria – one of San Antonio and South Texas’ most anticipated contemporary arts festivals is back for its 15th year with a celebration unlike any other. This year’s event will take place on the newly renovated Hemisfair grounds and at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. to midnight. The official lineup of 2023 Featured Artists lineup was announced and includes a uniquely talented and diverse group of individuals showcasing music, large-scale art installations, film, dance, fine art, and poetry. A full list of featured artists can be found below.
Luminaria is a unique event that provides a center stage spotlight for local artists to put their work on display and connect their art to the San Antonio community. Each year, artists who would like to participate in the event submit an application including examples of their work, an artist statement and a captivating story. Curators then score applications and meet to select those artists who will be featured in the event.
“San Antonio is a city that embodies our shared cultures that are full of vibrant and diverse art,” said Yadhira Lozano, Executive Director of Luminaria. “Luminaria provides artists the opportunity to flourish in their craft by providing innovative ways to showcase their work, advance their professional development, and build an expansive network through the Luminaria Contemporary Arts Festival.”
This year’s festival will host 2 live-music stages, 5 large-scale digital art projection areas, a full gallery of fine art at the Mexican Cultural Institute, large art installations and sculptures, a spoken word stage at UNAM San Antonio, and more across the newly inaugurated Civic Park, Hemisfair, and the Convention Center.
Other partners include The Magik Theatre, Little Amal, Voices de la Luna, the Mexican Consulate, the City’s Office of Global Engagement, and the Gwanju Museum of Art. While the majority of artists are from San Antonio and Bexar County, artists will be joining us from Austin, Houston, New York City, Mexico City, and Gwanju South Korea.
The annual event allows San Antonio locals and visitors alike to experience and enjoy the diversity that is the San Antonio arts and culture scene. Each year, our mission is to grow the event and explore new opportunities that will reach audiences and art forms that have yet to be uncovered. With the unrivaled support of our city leaders and our San Antonio community, we are inspired to live through art and encourage others to join.
