Artist Type: Literary Arts: Author/Writer, Poet; Performing Arts: Storyteller
I am constantly growing and transforming as an artist and the breath of my writing has also expanded overtime to encompass the beauty and the lessons from poets and artists that came before me. I am not a formally educated artist; although I do hold college degrees, including a doctorate quite separate from the art world. I see education as a blessing of information from our ancestors, meant to push our journey as artists and as humans of this world forward. My writing ranges from attention to social justice work to the modern exploration of black female sensuality and identity, even to gothic works inclusive of the black female experience.
Currently, my inspiration is focused on the enlightenment and liberation of the individual through visual art and the process and inspiration of modern artists. The two projects that I am currently obsessed with include a book of ekphrastic work that combines the inspiration and process of local and world renowned visual artists and poetry. I am also building a collection of poetry that I have written in reflection of Audre Lorde's essay on, "The Uses of the Erotic". I welcome artists interested in my ekphrastic work to contact me via email for an opportunity to work together.
