My name is Alison Hale. I am a San Antonio native and am almost 32 years old. I am very new to expression with art but it has come very natural to me. I currently have been making jewelry and jewelry boxes, of all shapes, and popping up at first Friday. It’s been the best job I’ve ever given myself and has really got me more involved with the community. I love popping up in front of Tumbleweed Coffee in Southtown and getting to talk to other artist and walker-bys. Art is so important and creating is so important to me. I’ve had such a great time teaching friends how to make jewelry. I love inspiring and hope to inspire with everything I do. It’s been so much fun encouraging others to create and I really love seeing others dedicated and enjoying making something with their hands. I hope this year to show more people how to make something and get more people started on their own projects. ✨

Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

I have always had a love for jewelry but have never really financially had the means to buy myself too many pieces. I’ve also always loved jewelry boxes and grew up collecting them. I one day stumbled upon resin and became obsessed with making my own jewelry to match and outfit or to give as a gift. Soon I moved to bigger pieces and have had a wonderful time getting creative with them. A lot my creativity comes from fixing mistakes. They happen a lot when you start anything. With the mistakes though I got to make pieces more unique. People seem to love them and so do I. Working with chain work has been challenging but very rewarding. I love recycling old jewelry from thrift stores or garage sells by dissecting them and using them for other pieces. I love not having a lot of resources and having to get creative with art, for instance eyeshadow makes great resin dye since most eyeshadow uses mica powder. I love recycling paint chips by gluing them onto a canvas strategically. My art really comes from innovation and just pure desire to create. It’s my favorite thing to do.
