Ana Menendez is a first generation Mexican American artist who grew up in California and now resides in San Antonio. She is a self-taught painter, illustrator, and jeweler. Her passion for art was nurtured at a young age; she began painting at 5 years old with acrylics and grew to love art, inspired by visits to the Getty Museum and Museo Soumaya. Her illustrations are inspired by her childhood as an immigrant growing up in the 2000s, deep-rooted family values, and scientific curiosity. Her style is an illustrative blend adopted from the multitude of cultures that coexist in America. Menendez graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a Bachelor of science in Biology. She hopes to inspire new generations of Hispanic girls to see themselves represented in the art community.

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

I have always been excited about art that evokes emotion or nostalgia. Many of my paintings are inspired by my childhood memories and how they have influenced my identity today. My style illustrative and playful with a focus on vibrant colors. Most of my work is done in acrylic, watercolor, or mixed media on canvas, recycled paper, or clay. In 2022, I delved into jewelry making with copper wire.
