My work sits at the crossroads of ancestral rhythms and modern sound design. I draw from mariachi’s rich tapestry—its percussive chordal patterns, call-and-response energy, and emotional storytelling—and weave it into digital frameworks that honor each strum and slap. Whether through live rasgueo or code-driven sample engines, I strive for an immediacy that feels both timeless and fresh.
My approach begins with deep listening: recording raw guitarrón, vihuela, and guitarra de golpe articulations at every dynamic, then sculpting them with digital tools to reveal hidden textures. I favor organic imperfections—a string buzz, a finger slide—over sterile loops, trusting that these human touches carry more narrative weight than perfect quantization ever could.
Philosophically, I see music as communal architecture. Each chord voicing is a conversation starter; each rhythmic pattern, an invitation for listeners and performers to co-create meaning. I aim to build bridges between generations and genres, letting mariachi’s traditional heart pulse through new mediums from concert halls to film scores.
The themes in my work orbit around memory and innovation: honoring where the music comes from while imagining where it might go. In every project—be it mentoring students on bow technique or designing a custom VST sampler—I ask myself: How can we preserve a living tradition and yet set it free to thrive in tomorrow’s soundscape?
