My name is Andrea Willems, a San Antonio native and received my BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2004.
My paintings are loosely based on the vistas of early landscape paintings and the vibrant colors of urban sceneries. Inspired by how we build, manipulate, and alter our landscapes and surroundings, they are playful, painterly and full of imagination.
For the past three years I’ve been teaching private art lessons. Watching fellow artists gain confidence through knowledge of technique and fundamentals has given new life to my practice. Teaching others how to draw more realistically, mix paint, stretch a canvas, learn perspective, gain a better understanding of color theory, and so much more has showed me that our desire to create is a kin to or desire to connect and there’s a million ways to do that. Art is full of lessons.
