Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

I’ve been drawn to expressing myself through the arts since I could remember, as I always wanted to draw what inspired me whenever I had the opportunity. Currently I work with acrylics, oils, and drawing media that I first explored during my undergraduate degree in Interdisciplinary Fine Arts. During this degree, the focus of my work was the interactions of natural and human made structures, landscapes, and various elements. Focusing on the distinction between the two during this time, I channeled thoughts of my own environment by using something impersonal, though I didn’t see it at the time. Reflecting on what drives my work now, I realize that I’m increasingly drawn to exploring the opposing landscapes within myself and the interactions that I have with the people I share my life with. Still using similar methods and mediums of geometric color, line work, and representational images primarily of birds, I’m challenging how I show up in the world. Although this is a place that I’ve kept hidden away from myself, I realize the power that is contained within further exploration. Reflecting on what this means for myself and my art, the landscapes I curate will continue to evolve, uncover, and respond to environments both external and internal.
