Artist Statement
Painting is a therapeutic experience for me; it's the perfect way to channel my energy, whether it be good or bad, and transform it into something tangible, something that I can hold on to and remember the time I felt the way I did at that moment. It is the way I stop to smell the roses.
In viewing my art, you will find that I have an identifiable art style: the distinctive eyes in each character, the cow and stucco patterns harmoniously working together to create movement within the paintings. The color palette is rich, a reminder of home, or walking around downtown San Antonio breathing in my culture.
My vision is that someone will create a new thought after viewing it. That a child might remember my painting as I remember San Antonio public artist Jesse Trevino’s “Spirit of Healing” when I was a kid. That someone might heal as I did when surrounded by art.
Above all, my art tells a story, not just my story, but any person who views my work and can relate or empathize with the stoic figures. It is for the child, it is for the inner child, for the mother who forgets to love herself, it is for the people who came before me and the ones who will come after.
