San Antonio based artist Candice Saenz was born and raised under the Texas Sky. She’s lived and studied art through central and south Texas. Her works have spanned from photography to performance, and have found their home in Mural Arts.

Since 2014, Candice has grown alongside the youngest of artists as she has influenced the next generation of artists through teaching the art of shared creativity.

Candice’s artwork draws from life as a Texicana, a Mexican American Texan Woman. Her works look at nature through the lens of a suppressed cultural past. She explores the old ways, forced to bend to societal norms, as they are rebirthed through research and creative expression into our present cultural landscapes.

Texicana

Growing up in the heart of San Antonio's Historic west side has grown roots that dive deep while inspiring branches forced to reach for a better sky. My art is a desire to capture life as a Texicana in a rapidly changing society. Mixing modern styles and traditional ideals with a pop of color; my art explores the patterns of nonconformity found in nature and in a compliantly forgotten heritage. Large scale paintings with twisting branches, winding streams, bright pastels, and greyscales bring cultural symbols into nature-scapes whose goals are lining our city streets with murals that seek to help San Anto bring her once abashed past back to the forefront.
