As a native San Antonian faux bois concrete artisan, I have a strong background in visual arts and over twenty-five years experience exhibiting faux bois in the public venue. Concrete faux bois (Fr. “false wood) sculpting is a highly specialized technique in which an artisan sculpts and colors reinforced concrete to mimic the appearance of wood. Mexican faux bois artisan Dionicio Rodríguez brought this European form of sculpting to the United States and taught it to my father, Maximo Cortés. I now carry on this family tradition and build faux bois concrete sculptures that are long lasting, virtually maintenance free, and complementary to the natural landscape.
