Carmen Vidal

I’m a passionate Art Director, who uses storytelling and design as tools to help me better represent the people and stories that inspire me. In my creative process, I seek to achieve a balance of aesthetics and message to help capture the reality of the world that surrounds me.

As an Art Director I work in collaboration with other artist and personalities to help tell stories that represent the interests of my community. This could be in different art forms such as photoessays, short documentary, podcast and interviews, printed and digital zines an other digital art forms.

Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

My approach is that of a curious documentarian seeking to uncover underrepresented stories to elevate them to give them the visibility they deserve.

I believe in the beauty of the ordinary and that we all can learn and be inspired by what may seem mundane. Everyone has an interesting story to tell, every person deserves to be admired for who they are, and we all deserve to be represented in a way that feels authentic to our identities.

I observe, and fall in love with people existing in their reality. I then seek the insight that helps me tell a story that uses the individual's experience in context with their environment, to help us uncover a bigger truth that connects us all as a community.

After developing the story line, I proceed to determine what is the best/most accessible medium tell such story. Here is where my multidisciplinary/collaborative approach comes through. My work can come through a podcast, photo essay, article, zine, or documentary.
