I have been a cultural activist for over 45 years. I am an international Native American cultural activist specialized in drama. I have taught classes and given workshops and presentations at universities like UTSA and many public school districts, like Edgewood, Harlandale, SAISD, and Northside. I have been a member of Teatro Campesino, Teatro Familia Aztlan, as well as my own theater company. I have a background in teaching theater from Pre-K to college level. I’ve been in the San Antonio community for more than 20 years.

Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

My philosophy is that if the people don’t go to the theater, then the theater has to go to the people. My style of theater is cultural, spiritual teatro rascuache, using Indigenous/Chicano/Mexican customs and traditions. My theme is theater-education. I use theater to educate and entertain. Theater should be a cultural, educational, and funny experience. More venues for art and theater are needed in San Antonio, because there are plenty of bars, but those spaces do not nourish us culturally and the San Antonio population needs more nourishment on a cultural level.
