Daecos Tijerina Sanchez

ARTIST BIO: Daecos as half of CALICO CLUB Calico Club is a multimedia art endeavor by Daecos Tijerina and Kimberly Cardenas. In 2014 we began playing DIY shows put together for the underground electronic & art scene in San Antonio. Shortly after, we self recorded, art directed & released our first EP. We grew from a local act to a touring act. We released our second EP Your Body and the Beat in 2017. We are currently working on remixes, plus a new release of music and visual art to accompany the music. Our music and art production style is based on a feeling, we interpret our thoughts through analog & digital cameras, Polaroid film, 35m film, analog synthesizers, drum machines, environmental audio and video sampling. Story boarding the entire project with soundbytes, video snippets, & riffs via our home recording process, we collaborate with other artists that have similar interests or capabilities we can benefit from and also serve as a beneficial collaborator to them. We have expanded our art to “videoscapes” and a lifestyle of using practical and analog effects in this digital age. Our visual work explores nature, and utilizes effects by way of reclaimed toys, fabrics, color gels, lighting, found objects and analog processing. We shoot original content and manipulate it with video mixers/processors like the Roland Edirol.   We’ve self directed 2 music videos from our first musical release (Permanent Night EP). ‘Untitled (F.T.D.F.)’ & ‘King of the Streets’ are introductions and explorations into a universe we are creating.  In 2016 we released an experimental short film titled ‘The Explorer’ which we directed and scored. Our video work extends from beyond the internet to live settings, in traditional and nontraditional venues. In 2018 we collaborated with Essentials collective to shoot and produce our music video for Nighttime Roller Disco from our second EP. We give a voice to people who create non traditional art. Our art speaks to the alternative and younger generation that find it difficult to define themselves.  We want people to understand art is interactive and limitless. Being Latino(a) artists, we encourage other Latinos(as) to explore alternative artwork as well as traditional.
