Emma Hernández is a multimedia artist, dancer, storyteller, activist, and project manager with a demonstrated history of working in library, government & non-profit communications. She has danced with Zombie Bazaar Panza Fusion and Los MENtirosos Drag King troupe since 2021. She currently serves as Communications Manager at We Testify, an organization dedicated to the leadership and representation of people who have abortions. Emma is a 2020 Planned Parenthood Youth Power Fellow and 2018 Library Journal Mover & Shaker. She holds a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a BA in Communication Studies from Indiana University as a Sam Masarachia scholar — an innovative course of study focused on labor, older adult, and community activism. Emma has facilitated workshops and presented sessions such as ‘Using Zines to forge Community Connections’ (Texas Library Association Annual Conference, 2021), ‘Los Caminos de la Vida: Healing the Wounds of Family Separation & Polimigra-based Trauma’ (Planned Parenthood Solidarity Conference, 2020), and ‘Reaching Latinx Library Users’ (National Latino Children’s Literature Conference, 2018).
