Raised in the culturally vibrant city of San Antonio, Esmeralda Jaime initiated her singing career at the tender age of 5 on the historic Alameda Stage with 1970s Spanish radio icon Mateo Camargo.   She participated and won the KCOR  talent competition, winning a short term recording deal with RCA Victor Mexico.  This catapulted her singing career, which garnered her praise and the experience of sharing the stage with mega stars namely Rosita Fernandez, Juan Gabriel, Lola Beltran, Selena, Shelly Lares, Lucero, Emilio Navaira and countless others. She attributes her unique vocal style to the melding of the many cultural music styles she was constantly exposed to here in San Antonio; the romantic Trios she heard at Mi Tierra, the Mariachis at the Arneson and Charreadas, the Conjunto she danced to at Market Square, cumbias she enjoyed at family quinces.  She was a regular performer on Fiesta Noche del Rio, “Chiquilladas” on Mexico TV, and Teatro Blanquita in Mexico City.  She recorded 2 long-play albums with CBS records Mexico, toured throughout Mexico and the US primarily singing in the Mariachi style, mastering the “falsete” with songs like “La Malagueña” and “El Pastor”. During her teens and early 20s, her artistic focus turned to Conjunto and Tejano music, where she began touring with San Antonio’s Liberty Band and later gleaning a long term Tejano music contract with Many Music as a solo artist. Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

My work encompasses and expresses my experience as a Mexican-American woman; the heart-ache, the triumph, the struggle and passion that I illustrate composing music and singing. I sing the music of my ancestors, of my neighbors of my heritage as a Latina, Tejana, I sing the music of my heart.  And I do so with the voice of a woman that has experienced tears, blood and sweat; love and  joy  of over 50 years lived as a mother, a daughter, a wife  a Tia, an educator and most recently an abuela and as a proud member of a diverse vibrant community which is my beautiful city. My approach is to combine the sounds and influence of Mariachi, Trio, Conjunto, Tejano and Banda in original music as well as traditional and classics collaborating with other local artists in professional recordings  and live performances.   The stories of my songs include personal experiences, stories of my parents  and my Abuelos as well as my community.  It is my philosophy that in an historic city as is San Antonio, our heritage is more fully preserved and illustrated through the  diverse performance of its artistic fiber as possible.
