THE HAUS OF GLITTER is a Dance Company+Performance Lab+Preservation Society that works to shift the energetic center of the universe towards care+healing+justice+freedom. In the work we share, preserve and co-create with communities around the world, we strive to embody ancestral liberation+healing+love in every step and every breath of our creative praxis. We believe there are missing puzzle pieces to the systems+symptoms of oppression that we are still feeling+reinforcing. Our care-centered practice aims to invite deep feeling, healing, and liberation.  From 2019-2022, we lived in a public park; in the former home of Esek Hopkins, commander of the slavery ship “Sally” thanks to an artist residency with the city of Providence. This experience lead us to draw deeper into our own lineages and let our ancestry of Queer+Black+Indigenous Ancestors of Color who dreamed of our existence, lead our art practice. We examined+identified gaps for BIPOC voices in historical archives and posed the question: What if we illuminated the history of a single Black person as a fully realized human with character+a family+a voice? Since this residency’s end, we have been carrying this mission as we travel around the world with our focus on building community around other sites of history+heritage+culture.

Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

The Haus of Glitter Dance Company works, through movement and choreography, to shift the energetic center of the universe towards Queer Feminist BIPOC Liberation. In the work we share and co-create with audiences, we strive to embody ancestral liberation, healing and love in every step and every breath of our creative process and pedagogy. Our choreography aims to reach beyond the stage and into the streets; into our homes; into our institutions; into our hearts; and into the soil of the earth.
We believe there are missing puzzle pieces to the systems + symptoms of oppression that we are still feeling and reinforcing. Our care-centered practice aims to invite deep feeling, healing, and liberation. We don’t just want to exist. We want to live. Change isn’t about forgetting. It’s about remembering.
At the intersection of Queer-Affirming Feminist BIPoC cultural preservation + spacekeeping, historical intervention, social practice, concert dance, public spectacle, immersive interdisciplinary performance theatre, and protest/performance art, The Haus of Glitter Dance Company primarily performs Contemporary and Traditional West-African/Afrobeats, Latin social, House, Vogue, Breakdance, Hip Hop, Drag, Theatre of the Oppressed, and loves collaborating with musicians, dancers, installation artists, performance artists, makers, multimedia artists, historians, and activist communities.
