JunkCore is my style, approach, philosophy and theme. My roots are in Appalachia, as is our custom we Make Do. We use what we have and we don't buy what we don't have to, as if systemic poverty allows for frivolous spending. I live among most of my creative works that I never intended to be art pieces, they were born of necessity and serve utilitarian purposes. Most of my clothing, furnishings, materials, etc in my day to day life are found curbside, traded or gifted from peers, and almost everything is repurposed, refurbished, retrofitted, reinforced: reduce reuse recycle is just a way of life, not a slogan.
My current home is an expression and collection of the charity and ingenuity I've had no choice but to rely upon in a Capitalist system, a system I never agreed to participate in and frankly, resent.
My visual works draw on feminist themes with a focus on rage and frustration, nature and water, featuring heavy handed high contrast linework in ink and graphite, sharp angles juxtaposed with soft curvature, and scant use of color to emphasize key elements.
My songwriting, poetry and essays have no set genre or theme. I rarely if ever have an angle in mind, I write compulsively in general, but my writing is often narrative and metaphorical, and tends towards stream of consciousness with unorthodox tempos and melody. I wish I could say anger wasn't a core tenet of my written work, but I won't mince words.
