The Lederhosen Junkies are a Texas based polka band from the New Braunfels area. They bring a fresh new take on old time classics and insert their own unique spin on traditional tunes. Polka fans young and old will enjoy their wide array of music ranging from traditional German, Czech, and Polish polkas and waltzes, as well as the occasional modern tune tossed into the mix.
Their upbeat style and on stage antics keeps the crowd engaged and begging for more.
“This is simply the most fun polka band to experience. I have seen them several times including at Wurstfest. [T]he songs are fun and the crowd always loves them, and I know I certainly do! They do both classics and polka versions of a few modern songs which are just as hilarious and wonderful!” – Matthew M.
The Junkies have played everything from major festivals to small venues and private parties. In 2025 the band is taking their brand of polka music to audiences across the nation.
Polka music is a style that wears many hats. I think this makes it one of the most unique and flexible styles on the Texas music scene today. I picked up the accordion out of a love and passion for my Texas-German heritage. I was particularly raised with a great appreciation for my folk music. Stylistically, I approach it not as a dusty, archaic style, but as something that is dynamic and impactful. It has energy, passion, and a story to tell. I have a unique philosophy when it comes to what I do. My band performs a variety of traditional German classics, hearkening back to the music's roots. German music in Texas has influenced and been influenced by other cultures that share Texas. We perform a few Czech songs as well and have a Spanish rendition of Im Himmel da gibts kein Bier. Texas German music continues to evolve and I am constantly taking influence from Austrian and German artists to see how the music diverged and how to incorporate elements of modern German music into what we do. I try to portray from all angles. Onstage we are passionate about engagement with our audience. Offstage, we engage in education. For instance, we partner with local schools to teach kids about the music and make polka music more accessible and available to young musicians. Texas German polka has had and will have a continuing legacy in our cultural scene and I am dedicated to doing my part so that it can be enjoyed by generations of Texans.
