Ivan Salcido
Ivan Salcido is a multidisciplinary artist based in the Pacific Northwest. Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, he earned his MFA at the University of Texas at San Antonio. His work draws on personal experience, family history, and Mesoamerican mythology, exploring themes of memory, cultural legacy, and resilience. Using materials such as steel, wood, and neon alongside vibrant color and symbolic imagery, Salcido creates paintings, sculptures, prints, and videos that reflect the intersection of tradition and contemporary life.

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):
My work reflects a dialogue between personal and cultural memory, drawing on my upbringing along the West Texas borderlands and my life in the Pacific Northwest. Using materials such as steel, wood, and neon, combined with vibrant color and symbolic imagery, my pieces explore Mesoamerican mythology, family history, and the natural world. They highlight the tension between permanence and impermanence, presence and absence, revealing the connections, resilience, and stories that shape our lives.d
