My name is Jackson Benavidez and I am a visual artist who specializes in drawing and spray-paint.  I started making art when I was fifteen as a therapeutic outlet for emotions and ideas. Creativity became an important part of my daily life, and I bonded with it the more I did it. I am an artist with a specific style because I didn’t have much mentorship growing up. My style is defined by bold lines and abstract patterns and it contains different animal, spiritual, and religious iconography.

It took me two years of self taught practice to find a form of drawing that I found satisfaction doing. Once I was confident in my skills and recognized a theme across my drawings I felt I found who I was artistically. By mastering my own style through drawing, I slowly gained confidence to try other media like oil paint, water color, and spray-paint. I began to see the roots of my drawing experience bleed through other media and decided mural work was something I really wanted to do.

I had moved to Florida for school and this is where my relationship with spray-paint began to take off. I was exhibiting work around St. Petersburg and Tampa when I started to get offers from business owners and homeowners to do murals. Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

For me art has always been a way of understanding myself and the world around me. I see the natural world itself as a work of art. Plants, animals, humans, mountains, rivers, houses, temples, oceans, etc. are all important components that make up the world we live in. I consider societies and cultures to be a part of the natural world as well. Beliefs, religions, and stories (true and mythological) that arise from humanity existing on earth inspire me. I like to imagine that I can see the earth from outside of it, embodying a sort of cosmic viewpoint looking down on the phenomenon that we live on. In retrospect my creative process is a personal journey and can be described simply…

Art is a meditation, Art is a religion,  Art is a connection to the soul.

My approach to art is a deeply personal and introspective journey, aimed at expressing internal realizations and fostering self-awareness. I emphasize the transformative power of creative forces in shaping my own perceptions and promoting unity. Through a blend of diverse spiritual and cultural influences, I seek to evoke a sense of oneness and wonder in the viewer. I believe that through wonder and introspection we can come to fully appreciate life.

The art I do is characterized by vibrant colors, otherworldly figures, and a harmonious chaos, all intended to resonate with the soul and inspire exploration of the self and the world. Ultimately, I believe in the innate creativity of humanity and the capacity of art to inspire and connect individuals on a profound level.
