The work has been featured in “Sculpture Magazine” Vol. 27 num. 7, International Sculpture Center  p. 22, and the anthology “The New Earthworks: Art Action Agency” copies of which are found in the Public Art San Antonio book collection and online at www.sculpture.org.  As detailed below, our most current and significant public art project is a large-scale metal sculpture honoring Brooks Field’s contribution to the military’s first aviation training aircraft, the bi-winged “Jenny.”

Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

For public art projects I work with only new sustainable materials that are delivered with MTRs (Mill Test Results).  MTRs offer traceability and accountability. It confirms compliance with industry standards and regulations, contributing to overall quality management in steel fabrication, my preference is stainless steel, although, it requires far more work and care, completed we deliver a maintenance free surface that will stand the test of time.

If color is needed, we use only Dupont two-part epoxy that is designed for both the surface being applied and the area that it will live.

I am assuring that I assemble my works with the highest standards. I have included images of past work of stainless steel, galvanized steel, epoxy industrial coated sculptures, oxidized steel and some feature kinetic elements. These examples will endure the test of time.

Interacting with committees, researching rich histories and acknowledging what each setting dictates, I create pieces that bespeak the natural landscape and memorializes the area and its residents in an enduring work of art while respecting the importance of budget thresholds and on time delivery. You will find that the sculpture is thought provoking with quick to understand concepts while providing sustainability and little to no maintenance requirements. Works may also incorporate solar energy for a self-sustaining lighting element.

Best regards,

James Hetherington
