Joanna Armijo Zamarron was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. She grew up on the southside of town where she still resides with her cats and dog. Ms. Zamarron has been practicing photography since she was a young girl, documenting family and friends, musicians, and cultural events as far back as she can recall.
Ms. Zamarron earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Photography was her major and art history, her minor. She also attended Texas A & M Corpus Christi and Palo Alto College. Ms. Zamarron has a long history of participating in juried art exhibits dating back to the 1990’s.
Inspired by a sentimental sensibility and a romantic notion of photography as a magical keeper of time and memories Ms. Zamarron seeks to capture moments, intimate, raw, undisturbed and real. As well as turn the camera inward to explore the more personal realm of the human condition, love, loss, chaos, and resolve.
On a less serious note, she can also be found photographing bikers, rockers, her cats, strangers, flowers, bugs, and generally rearranging the sky.

Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

This needs to be updated. Since it was written much has happened, shifted with me - my love for nature and exploring with my Romeo has become my number one ~ photography trees, the sky, water, all those things are obviously more prevalent since it was written. My dog, my walks/hikes with him along with my sobriety are the most influential thing or I guess the beauty I see in things now is because of them (dog and sobriety). But my other side is still there and in that statement I didn’t reference artistic influences but much has to do with the sublime, also love the color field painters.
