I was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. My relatives were migrant workers that settled in San Antonio. They worked hard, partied hard, and were content. This is the foundation of my work: beautiful memories of growing up in a close knit community. I am proud of my roots. I focus my art on Chicano cultural images that connect the viewer with their own realities. My work reveals a deep emotional compassion for the simple way of life. My cultural paintings show the simple beauty of everyday moments experienced by millions across this country. My Gallo (Rooster) paintings portray a natural symbol that is deeply rooted in the Chicano culture. My Dia de los Muertos incorporate my personal perspective into the symbols of this Mexican tradition. My art has been featured in several books and in three separate documentaries nationally.
