John Dyer

My love for photography comes from the excitement of seeing what something looks like when photographed.  The camera sees differently than the human eye.  Different lenses see differently from each other.  There is a difference (at least to me) of shooting in color or black & white. Placing the frame of a camera and freezing a bit of time and space creates something new.  Something different from what was photographed. That something has its own rules and esthetic, a transformation that I find intoxicating.  Whatever photography is, I can’t get enough of it. I’m drawn to interesting people doing interesting things: Vaqueros, Indians, Conjunto musicians, Lucha Libre wrestlers, blue collar workers…much of it drawn from the rich cultural nexus that is San Antonio and South Texas.
