Jonathan Balderas, also known as JonB, is a San Antonio-based graffiti artist specializing in typography. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant street art scene of San Antonio, Jonathan Balderas has developed a unique style that seamlessly blends traditional graffiti techniques with bold, expressive lettering. With over 23 years of experience, Jonathan Balderas has honed their craft and have become recognized for their ability to transform overlooked surfaces into colorful, eye-catching works of art. His work can be found on walls, freight trains, and buildings throughout the city, and has been featured in several local and national exhibitions. Through his art, Jonathan Balderas seeks to challenge perceptions of what graffiti can be and to promote a deeper appreciation for the art form. He believes that typography has the power to communicate complex ideas and emotions by highlighting his message through letters, and strives to use his work to spark conversations and inspire positive change. In addition to their graffiti work, Jonathan Balderas also participates in community projects aimed at introducing young people to the world of street art and teaching a sense of pride and ownership over their local environment.

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):
As a graffiti artist who specializes in typography, I am drawn to the expressive nature of both forms. My work represents a hybrid of the two art forms, combining the bold, spontaneous style of graffiti with the precision and structure of typography.
I am constantly inspired by the energy and vibrancy of nontraditional spaces, and I aim to capture that same feeling in my work. I believe that typography has the power to communicate messages and stir up emotions in a way that no other medium can, and when combined with the rebellious nature of graffiti, it creates a truly unique aesthetic.
I am always experimenting with different techniques and styles, pushing the boundaries of what is possible with graffiti and typography. Each piece I create is a reflection of my own personal style and voice, and I strive to make a positive impact on the world through my art.
