My name is Kai Aguirre and finished my BFA in Sequential Art along with a double minor in Storyboarding and Painting. When I’m not doing comics, I play Stardew Valley, read novels, watch horror movies, and do yoga. After a few years of creating, I want to become an art teacher and help young artists grow in their craft. As you can see Peppa is my main inspiration! To get me through my college years, seeing Peppa’s face and remembering her character made me happy; I wanted to share that same kind of happiness with my peers and my readers. I would love to bring comfort and a smile to my readers by creating a series that shares the predicaments and problems of Peepa, while also reminding them they aren’t alone.

Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

I find a lot of discomfort in life and the way I can comfort that piece of me is to create a world to make people understand me and others who seek comfort in darkness. This is through typical creatures of comfort such as pets, flowers, and candles, while adding this element of discomfort to juxtapose.  I struggle with anxiety and depression and I believe that liminal spaces create this reality of comfort by having me revisit familiar yet new environments. What I find in my community, we want to relive moments of nostalgia and live in easier moments of our lives. I hope through these paintings, I can insert elements of animals and even myself into these liminal environments to provide this feeling.
