Kim Anguiano was born and raised in San Antonio. Kim’s creative journey reflects the city’s diverse culture through varied artistic interpretations. With her “Self-Ease” series, launched during Contemporary Art month in 2024, she explored empathy, self-discovery and self-love through abstract faceless figures symbolizing shared humanity. Using mixed media: paint, resin, reflective accents, clay, insulation boards, spray paint, wire and texture. Kim aims to plant seeds of new possibilities and foster a deeper understanding of ourselves and one another beyond our differences. Kim has been represented at the SAAC and Doriva Gallery in San Antonio as well as currently in the Fort Worth Gallery location since 2020. Kim was a formerly a Resident Artist at The Beacon at Midtown Gallery and Studios and the owner, curator and host at the Modern Eclipse Gallery, located in the Upstairs Studios at Blue Star Arts Complex.
Arts and Community; Honored and humbled to have been a creative within the San Antonio performing arts community through day work experiences affiliated through Local 76 International Alliance for Theatrical Stage Employes union as a wig stylist, dresser, and supervisor at the Majestic Theatre in the heart of downtown San Antonio. Other creative affiliation includes Ballet San Antonio, and Opera San Antonio. Artist Statement of Work
Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):
My creative tank never runs low, as I continuously aspire to be true to authentic expressions where I can reflect from a genuine place. I express myself fearlessly using art as my language, intentions, survival, and purpose.
I thrive on the challenge of processing my thoughts, emotions, and what I can imagine through creative works. Combining thoughts with emotion brings my creative designs and paintings to life. The context and subjects of my works evolve and fluctuate, just like my life. New ideas are stimulated by my personal experiences which encourage me to produce new original works. Creating on unlimited platforms is an important part of my vision. I often create from deep reflections, but I'm also inspired to flip the switch and create lighthearted creativity inspired by my playful and stylish nature. Flowing within a genuine and authentic place where sometimes beauty through vulnerability is observed in creative works radiates an attractive commonality. Art is a place I believe we can truly heal ourselves and each other. It's my ambition to translate and exchange with the viewer while I speak through my art. As an artist reveals oneself, connection and true identity is shared with the viewer.
