Lauren Raye Snow
Lauren Raye Snow is an artist from San Antonio, Texas. Her work explores uncanny, ambivalent visions, both dreadful and cathartic. She draws inspiration from the Symbolists and the Pre-Raphaelites, from the Catholic and Indigenous spiritual icons of her native Texas, and from works of terror and beauty in literature, myth, and music. Lauren has shown work in Rojo Gallery, Híjole SA, and the Dougherty Arts Center Austin, and has served as gallery manager for Under Construction Gallery. Her art has been published in Apex Magazine, Locus Magazine, and Infected By Art Volume 11. Her work has earned her nominations in the Chesley and the World Fantasy Awards.

Artist Statement of Work
Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):
In my drawings and paintings, I am chasing transcendence. As a devout but creative child I would spend hours in church, transfixed by the feast for the senses in the traditional services I attended. What I ultimately found inside belief afflicted me in a way I am still working to understand. Toward that end, in my drawings and paintings, I rearrange the motifs of holiness like tiles, combining them with relics of personal significance, telling and re-telling stories of acceptance. When engaging with my paintings, I want the viewer to feel the call of mystery, to be unsettled and shaken, to fear but be seduced.
Embracing contradiction can be a healing, transformative experience. My work is inspired by and created through holding the tension of opposing emotion together, to spin out something new and vital.
