Lennon Maldonado is a San Antonio native producing works of digital filmmaking and poetry. He first picked up a camera in the 8th grade and later went on to earn his associate’s degree in digital video and cinema production from Northwest Vista College. During his time in college, he formed Picture Tomorrow, a production company focused on creating unconventional films in Texas. As Maldonado produced The Forbidden Fruit, a short film inspired by the French New Wave, and other shorts poking fun at philosophy, he acted as a judge for student films in the University Interscholastic League State Film Festival (2017-2019), and later served as the feature film programmer for the San Antonio Film Festival (2022-2024). Since the Covid pandemic, Maldonado has self-published his first two collections of poetry, Everything You’ve Ever Felt For Anything Ever (2020), and What Are We Doing Here? (2023). Today he is primarily focused on the intimacy of storytelling, and both as a critic and creator emphasizes the faithful realization of artistic ideas.

Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

My work primarily resides on the page and on the screen. After being in a position to professionally critique hundreds of films, I find that anyone's art is an extension of their experiences and interests. In this respect, I aim to imbue my works with the many things of the world I've come across. I draw inspiration from people I've met while traveling alone, things I've overheard, and simply looking at anything and wondering "what if". To me, endless inspiration is as easy as taking a look around, and sharing my experiences through art can hopefully help others reflect on theirs. I believe that any story can be impactful when given the right amount of care from the storyteller.
