Pinhole photography street photography

I am a self taught artist and photographer.  I have been a creative all my life since I was a child and have explored many different forms of art.  I love the outdoors and am inspired by the different places I travel to.  Photography happened upon me during my teenage years when I discovered my fathers camera.  Both art and photography provide me with a means to express myself whether it be in the studio, out hiking or walking around downtown capturing some street photography.  I couldn’t imagine my life without either one.  Sometimes I paint in the comfort of my studio or en plein air (outdoors) while I am out camping or hiking.  My work is not intended to be a precise representation of my subject but instead an expression of the feeling and emotion caused by the subject.  As far as my photography goes I have a love for black and white photography but do explore color and alternative photography methods such as pinhole photography. Before the digital age I shot on film and learned how to print in a darkroom. Today I shoot using digital cameras but still process my images with the same concepts I used in a darkroom. I am always experimenting with new techniques and mediums to achieve the desired end result.

Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

When I paint I enjoy creating abstracts that represent the landscape.  I use various mediums such as watercolor, oil, acrylic and various mark making tools.  My photography is mostly fine black and white street photography and abstract photography using a pinhole lens and intentional camera movement. I enjoy experimenting with my photography and prefer images that have a dreamlike look to them.  With my street photography I like to capture the beauty in the everyday life of strangers.
