Michael Cirlos is a freelance photographer and videographer in San Antonio, and has been working professionally as a photographer in Downtown San Antonio for the past 10 years. Some clients include: City of San Antonio Department of Arts and Culture, Red Bull,  Verizon Wireless, Centro San Antonio, San Antonio Report, and World Heritage Office. Michael’s largest body of work, ‘Humans of San Antonio’, a photojournalism & placemaking project that chronicles over 1,000 people in San Antonio’s urban core celebrates the visual story of our multicultural community. The Humans of San Antonio project was published by Trinity University Press in 2018, and became the top selling Downtown San Antonio photography book in the history of the Press. Michael is an Awesome SA Community Award Winner, a former Pecha Kucha San Antonio Speaker, and former student of Rick Loomis, a pulitzer award winning photojournalist of the Los Angeles Times. In 2019, Michael activated Peacock Alley in Downtown San Antonio by installing Downtown’s largest wheat paste public art mural. This initiative lead the way to the development of Centro’s San Antonio Art Everywhere Program and current Peacock Alley Activations raising over $500,000 in grant funding. My photography and videography approach to my work always begins with storytelling of people, places, and culture. As a visual artist, my goal is to connect audiences to individual life experiences shared by the subject. I believe telling the stories of people will help us shape a better understanding the world we live in today.
