I blew into Texas in 2019, just before the COVID pandemic. Like many artists, I checked out Austin. But I enjoy quiet, peaceful cities. So I deicded to move to San Antonio. Since then, I have been working as a freelance writer, covering local events and human interest stories. I have been fortunate enough to be a writer for almost twenty years, writing articles for magazines like Authentic Texan and Working Nurse. I also have written and directed plays, as well as short films. A short film I wrote in 2021 was awarded Winner in LIFF Sweden. This makes sense, because my background is in documentary filmmaking. My documentaries were commissioned by my home county in Virginia. I also did an extremely low budget documentary for a California museum to fulfill BLM requirements. I also have a passion for photography, having run a photography business for four years in California. I do not currently run a photography business, but I do some photojournalism for the magazines I work with. I would love to write some scripts for local theater, or maybe even shoot a short film with talented San Antonio artists!

Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

I enjoy learning about my subjects, and I believe that the old adage about there being two sides to every story holds true. My interests are varied, and I cover nearly any theme under the sun, both with my writing and my films (such as they are). My dramatic scripts delight in being inscruitable, and I love art that leaves interpretation to the viewer. In this age of easy, facile answers to complex issues,  I far prefer thought-provoking films and art that do not make answers obvious. With my documentaries, they are for a different audience, so I tend to focus on a simpler message, although if the subject matter was more complicated, I could easily make my storytelling techniques more complex if necessary.
