From an early age, my parents played a pivotal role in recognizing and nurturing my inherent passion for art, effectively laying a strong foundation for a lifelong journey dedicated to creativity and self-expression. Initially, drawing served as my primary means of exploration; however, after relocating to Texas in 2004, I unearthed a hidden talent for metal artistry that expanded my creative repertoire. In the subsequent seven years, I have dedicated significant time and effort to mastering acrylic painting, a medium that has empowered me to convey my artistic vision with increased clarity and vibrancy.

Throughout my artistic evolution, each medium has contributed uniquely to my understanding of form, color, and texture. My foray into metal artistry introduced me to the principles of three-dimensional design, while acrylic painting has allowed me to experiment with color dynamics and layering techniques. This combination of skills has not only enriched my artistic expression but also fostered a deeper appreciation for the intricate nuances of different materials.

As I continue to engage with various artistic practices, my commitment to growth remains steadfast. I actively seek opportunities for collaboration and critique, believing that such interactions are essential for artistic development. By remaining open to new experiences and continually refining my techniques, I aspire to create works that resonate and inspire, bridging personal narrative with broader artistic dialogues.

I find great fulfillment in my role as a leader of painting events at work, where I can share my passion with colleagues and foster an environment of creativity. In 2024, I had the privilege of contributing to our Dia De Los Muertos altar, an event steeped in cultural significance. I lent two of my portrait paintings, “Soulmates,” which included representations of La Catrina and El Catrin. The opportunity to celebrate this tradition and honor its meaning was deeply rewarding.

The two portraits not only enriched the altar but also resonated with my coworkers. After being on display for three weeks, they caught the attention of a colleague who ultimately purchased them during our annual craft sale—an event that saw over 30 of my paintings find new homes. This experience underscored the power of art to connect individuals and foster community spirit.

Currently, I am focused on creating female portraits for a series celebrating International Women’s Day within our workplace culture club. This initiative aims to highlight the strength and diversity of women, and I am excited to contribute to this meaningful celebration. My work is showcased throughout the halls of my office building, adorning both communal spaces and individual offices, including St. Mary’s University and numerous private residences across San Antonio.

Creating art for its own sake is a profoundly fulfilling endeavor that allows me to explore some of my innermost thoughts and emotions. The process of translating an idea from my mind’s eye onto a blank canvas using paint is not only an exercise in creativity but also a journey of self-discovery. Each brushstroke represents an expression of individuality, where colors and forms converge to tell unique stories.

The true reward, however, lies in the ability of my painting to resonate with viewers on a deeper level, igniting their emotions and evoking a connection. When a piece created solely for personal pleasure and artistic challenge captures the attention of an audience and inspires them to make a purchase, it becomes a testament to the effective communication of my artistic vision. This connection between me the creator and the observer is what elevates art from mere decoration to a meaningful exchange that enriches both my life and the lives of those who appreciate my work. In essence, the act of creating for oneself while simultaneously reaching out to engage others exemplifies the dual nature of artistry: personal fulfillment and shared experience. As I continue to evolve in my artistic journey, I remain committed to leveraging my skills to inspire others, celebrate culture, and enrich our community through the transformative power of art.
