I am a working artist that draws inspiration from human emotion and nature. I hold an M.F.A in Fine Arts from Florida State University but only understood my true direction recently. Becoming a mother in 2017 changed the entire meaning and composition of my art. While trying to remember how I used to do things, I had to adapt to my new life and change how I did the things I once was so familiar with. I was born in San Antonio, determined to follow my dream of becoming a successful artist from a young age; and finding the difficulty that comes with trying to follow a dream with no instructions.

Among both boosters and setbacks, I wish to persevere and share my art with those who might feel it to be interesting, relevant, informative, or relatable. I enjoy spending time outdoors, tracing lines of branches in trees or observing the unique native wildlife. I have taught painting and drawing classes and exhibited my art around the country including at Art Basel Miami. I have artwork in the permanent collection at Florida State University Oglesby Gallery in the Student Union. I’ve won several awards for my art that encompass my many styles but color, abstraction, figurative, and nature have always been a common theme through the decades. I look forward to sharing my art with the community and hope that it brings meaning to those who view it.

Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

I forget to stop and breathe and be conscious within the moment, and that's what inspires my art now. Being present in the moment and cognizant of the things that surround me, attempting to be aware of my mental health which is a recurring subject in my art. My interests lay abundantly in nature, conservation, wildlife, and outdoor adventures. Minimizing my own environmental impact and learning about the native-scapes that Central/South Texas is losing to drought and development inspire the meaning of some art I create, other times I go ahead and use what the earth gives me directly in my art such as leaf prints.

I am working towards showcasing Texas native plants in my art more as we become more environmentally conscious as a community, realizing the importance of keeping a natural balance between civilization and the natural earth. I can get carried away with my thoughts and imagination so nature also keeps me present and grounded, teaching me to use and notice the things that are around me already instead of using energy searching, wanting, and and possibly wasting.
