Hello, my name is Samantha Casas, a San Antonio Native, Latina, Mom, and Photographer. My photography journey started in elementary school when I had a bright pink Barbie Polaroid camera that I took everywhere with me. In middle school and high school, it was taking pictures of my friends and I with the latest digital cameras that the early 2000s had to offer. Once college hit, I finally upgraded to a Canon Rebel T3 and shot for my family. Once I became a mother, I wanted to capture the sweet moments that motherhood had to offer and began taking my photography more seriously. After my second child, I decided to become a professional in 2017. I created Samantha Casas Photography, LLC and have captured memories for many individuals, couples, and families. After COVID, I did take a break from my photography, but I am so ready to refresh my brand, style, and get back to the reason why I love having a camera in my hands.

Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

I focus on portraiture but also want to expand on documentary and story telling via photography. There are so many amazing stories in San Antonio that I would love to share through my lens. For my artist project, I will mix these two types of photography and capture different types of caregivers interacting and caring for their young ones. As a foster/adoptive parent myself, I know that families sometimes look different, but the love is just the same. San Antonio has a high population of grandparents raising grandchildren, or other families members stepping up to take care of their kin. Being able to be a voice for them would give me a great honor.
