Sandra Gonzalez is a South Texas muralist and art educator at Roosevelt High School in San Antonio, Texas. She earned a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2013, and her artwork has been exhibited throughout the United States. Since 2016, she has designed and completed large-scale public murals across Texas, creating vibrant works that celebrate the history, culture, and diverse communities of the places they serve. She frequently collaborates with her husband, fellow muralist Malachy McKinney, combining their complementary skills to create impactful public art projects.
Sandra’s artistic practice is rooted in transforming public spaces into welcoming environments where people feel seen, connected, and inspired. Community collaboration is central to her creative process, and she regularly organizes painting events that invite residents to participate in the creation of public artwork, fostering a shared sense of pride and ownership. As an educator, she has also guided her students in beautifying their school campus through collaborative art projects. Her experience as both a muralist and teacher has strengthened her ability to lead creative teams, engage diverse audiences, and develop meaningful public art that reflects local identity while creating lasting connections within the community.

My work is inspired by the people, history, traditions, and natural beauty of Texas. Through vibrant color palettes, dynamic patterns, and expressive compositions, I create murals that celebrate a community's unique identity while transforming public spaces into welcoming places of connection and belonging. I am particularly interested in incorporating local landmarks, native plants, cultural traditions, and storytelling into my designs, creating artwork that reflects the character and spirit of each site.
Collaboration is at the heart of my creative process. I believe public art is most meaningful when the community has a voice in its creation, so I work closely with clients, stakeholders, and residents to develop designs that are both visually engaging and deeply rooted in place. Community painting events are an important part of my practice, allowing people of all ages to contribute to the artwork and develop a lasting sense of pride and ownership.
