My name is Valentine Quintero. I am 33 years old. I grew up in the west side of San Antonio. I entered the Army Reserves in 2009 -2012. I attended the International Academy of Design and Technology in 2010 -2012 studying to get a BFA in graphic design. I did not complete college. I have been doing art since 2006 when I entered high school at Memorial HS. I was always distracted and found art to be my favorite class. I would always be drawing in my sketch book during lunch making my own illustrations of monsters and imaginary characters. Some artists that inspired me were the people putting art on skateboards; Michael Sieben, Don Pendelton, Berry McGee, The Mighty Chung, JJ Rudisill and Jeremy Fish. I was into graffiti and skateboarding in high school. I wanted to make my own clothing brand for skateboarders when I got out of high school, so entering the graphic program felt like the right way to go. I did make a few clothing items doing screen printing (self-taught) and found out quickly it was not what I expected. My favorite art to make is illustrations, graphics, nature photography, black and white photography, abstract art, contemporary art, poetry, some indie rock music and some r&b music.

Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

My favorite art to make is illustrations; I like to draw skulls, creepy stuff, and imaginary things. Graphics, nature photography, black and white photography, abstract art, contemporary art, poetry, some indie rock music and some r&b music are my favorites as well. Depending on the mood of the art I usually put on some music that is similar to the tone I am trying to achieve.   I am inspired by everything around me, it can be a sound or people, what's going on in society or my mood at the time.
