My name is Victoria Serna. I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, and I earned my Bachelor’s in Art at the University of the Incarnate Word. I have been making art for as long as I can remember and have always taken art classes throughout school. I use a variety of mediums, such as drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture. I enjoy experimenting with different mediums and hope to continue that exploration. Many motifs can be seen in my work and can be anything that strikes my curiosity, but the motifs seen most are portraiture, flora and fauna, skulls, and eyes. In some works, many will be combined or interact in some way. Some pieces are also inspired or based on mythology, fairytales, etc.

In some cases, for me art is an escape from the overwhelming craziness that life can be, even if for just a few minutes. Some of my work has portraiture, but I try to add an intriguing element or some are based on an interesting story, which I think helps in providing said escape. In my work, I find myself not having a set "meaning" behind some pieces, besides ones based on something specific like myths or stories. However, even then some can take from it if they want to. I do find it fascinating in general when viewers can find meanings and make their own connections to my artworks and art in general. Regardless, of whether it is a small section of a piece or the work as a whole. I draw inspiration from many sources (online, books, etc.) and my observations of the world around me. When I create a piece based on myths/fairytales it turns into an opportunity to learn more about different cultures, tales, and things I am not used to or have just not seen yet. I started with my tried-and-true medium of drawing (especially grayscale), but have branched out to other mediums like painting, printmaking, and sculpture, I enjoy experimenting with different materials and mediums and plan to continue that exploration in my work. With any medium, I find it fascinating to turn something flat (sometimes) blank into something eye-catching and intriguing. The fact of just being able to create something (2D and 3D) out of anything really is exciting and fascinating.
